The original plan was for us to be gate marshals on a gated road but it turned out that there wouldn't be any stock in the fields and the gates could be left open so we were diverted to car park duties. This turned out to be a total waste of resources as at one point there were eight of us doing a job that could have been done by one or two at the most. We did what we had to do and then retired to the warmth of the cafe to wait to see the start. While we were sipping coffee & eating chips we found that there was a shortage of marshals out in the wilds and some groups were having to chase around to marshal at more than one checkpoint while there was now six of us sitting around doing nothing.
It's getting harder to find people who are prepared to go out in poor conditions to enable others to have their fun and it's just plain stupid to not use those who are prepared to do it. We will be thinking hard about doing it in the future.
Despite our frustration it wasn't a bad night. We met some great people and saw some super cars being used as they were intended.
With not a lot to do on car park duties I managed to get a few pictures of the cars in the car park and the scrutineering area.
